Most VPN services collect user data, require email registration, and rely on outdated protocols that are easily detected and blocked. Etherly needed something different — a service built from the ground up where privacy isn't a feature, it's the architecture. No email, no logs, no tracking. Seed-phrase authentication. Crypto-only payments. A protocol stack that makes VPN traffic invisible to deep packet inspection.
Every layer, from scratch
We took full ownership of the product — brand identity, native iOS app, marketing website with user dashboard, backend API, and server infrastructure. No third-party VPN SDKs or auth providers. The tunnel runs on Xray-core with VLESS + Reality, making connections indistinguishable from regular HTTPS. The iOS client uses PacketTunnelProvider for true system-level coverage. Authentication works through cryptographic hash — no passwords stored anywhere.
Native SwiftUI with Xray-core
The iOS client is built entirely in SwiftUI with a custom Xray-core binding (SwiftyXrayKit). One-tap VPN connection, real-time ping to servers, built-in speed test, live traffic stats, and a Home Screen widget. Kill Switch works through On-Demand VPN rules. A hidden developer mode provides diagnostics when needed. The tunnel runs as a PacketTunnelProvider Network Extension — system-wide coverage for all apps.
Next.js marketing site & dashboard
The public-facing website and user dashboard are built with Next.js. Animated landing page, pricing with crypto checkout, setup guides for every platform, session management, server status monitoring, and legal pages including a Warrant Canary. Fully responsive and SEO-optimized.
10 Gbps, RAM-disk, zero persistence
Primary VPN node deployed in Germany on 10 Gbps infrastructure. Docker-based with automated SSL, Nginx reverse proxy with SNI routing, and Xray-core running VLESS + Reality. The server operates entirely in RAM — nothing is written to disk, ever. Automated health checks and monitoring ensure uptime without human intervention.
